The Cyprus Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) was officially suspended in November 2020 following an investigation that uncovered abuses. The programme, which allowed direct citizenship for investments of €2 million+, is no longer accepting applications.
Current Path to Citizenship
The most common route to Cyprus citizenship is now through Permanent Residency followed by naturalization. This is a slower process but remains a legitimate and well-established path.

- 5 years of legal residence in Cyprus (continuous, with PR status)
- Basic Greek language knowledge — functional conversational ability
- Clean criminal record in Cyprus and your country of origin
Alternative Route: 7 Years Residence
Even without PR status, you can apply for Cyprus citizenship after 7 years of legal residence in Cyprus. This applies to those holding a work permit, student visa, or other legal residency status. The same naturalization requirements (Greek language, clean record) apply.
